Digital Disruption – Is Your Organisation Ready?

Big tech has now become too big to ignore; it’s not an ‘if we should integrate IoT, Industry 4.0, AI and big data’, but a ‘when?’ and crucially, ‘how?’.

In today’s environment, the pace of change is accelerating at a fierce rate; it took 38 years for radio to reach 50 million users, 13 years for television to do the same, three years for the internet, but just 19 days for the Pokémon Go app. We live in a world which is not only powered by technology but shaped by it; it has steadily infiltrated every facet of modern living, from expenditure to exercise and almost everything in between. The digital natives who embraced the newest technology from day dot have a distinct advantage, but leading legacy organisations are reviewing and re-planning their future strategies today in order to succeed in tomorrow’s marketplace, with change shaped by digital transformation. There are two choices; either fall behind your competitors, or pursue a digital transformation to become a highly responsive customer-centric operation, led by integration and driven by innovation.

Artificial intelligence, machine learning, industry 4.0, blockchain, big data and analytics have been gamechangers, paving the way for value creation, collaboration and improved margins for organisations savvy enough to adopt them. But there is a catch; these technologies can only benefit businesses with
the capability to properly utilise them, and a surprisingly large number of companies have the budget to buy, but lack an effective plan to apply. This is nothing new; history is littered with failed companies who chased the ‘next big thing’. Seduced by promises of a quick fix and big returns, they invested millions in
technology but neglected to invest in making the organisational and operational changes fundamental to fully realise the potential of their investment.

The key to becoming one of the success stories, rather than a cautionary tale, is rooted in effective integration of strategy, planning, processes, behaviours, people and capabilities.
