Meet the Team – Lloyd Snowden

How long have you worked for Oliver Wight?

For 18 years.

What’s your background? i.e. university, previous roles?

I am a qualified Mechanical Engineer – I graduated from the University of Coventry with 2:1 Honours. I am also Fellow of the Institute of Mechanical Engineers, so my signature could read “Lloyd Snowden, BSc Hons FI Mech E”!

Before joining Oliver Wight, I had quite a different career – I used to build trains with British Rail Engineering Limited (BREL). I was recruited to their Monitored Professional Development Scheme, a 2-year program aimed at recruiting members for the Institute of Mechanical Engineers. It set me up for a management role and from there, I went through various management positions and ended up as a Managing Director for a company called SAB WABCO. In my final two roles for BREL – then known as Adtranz – I used Oliver Wight to initiate change, as I did in SAB WABCO, after which I joined Oliver Wight.

What does your day-to-day job involve?

Day-to-day activity in Oliver Wight is very diverse. I focus on all aspects of OW as well as running my own company, which is part of the OW LLP. This means; managing sales, writing and submitting proposals, delivering work for clients, network development for future sales, submitting invoices, managing expenses, attending OW meetings, and developing materials for the Global OW, as well as specifically for clients.

What’s your favourite part of the job?

Working with and meeting people, and then seeing how they change, develop, and improve.

What’s your idea of a utopian workplace?

An organisation that can perform based on natural teamwork, up and across the organisation.

If you had to describe yourself in three words, what would they be?

Passionate, structured, and hard-working.

What is your favourite saying?

Just do it.

What would people be surprised to know about you?

Owning my own beehive when I was 16 is what inspired my interest in the concept of teamwork.

What’s your biggest achievement? – Professional and/or personal

Developing the facility, process, and most importantly, the team at York when ABB first took over BREL.
