What is your job title?
I am a Partner at Oliver Wight.
How long have you worked for Oliver Wight?
It’s just coming up to eight years.
What’s your background?
After school, I studied for a Masters in Chemistry and completed an MBA much later. Prior to joining OW, I had a long career in the corporate world with BP Plc. I enjoyed it immensely as it gave me the opportunity to learn much and travel extensively. During that phase of my career, I had 17 different roles, so picked up a broad range of experience which has served me well with the diverse range of clients that I work with at Oliver Wight EAME.
What does your day-to-day job involve?
I don’t consider working with OW as a ‘job’, as one of the reasons that I left the corporate world was to be able to run my own business. We do have tasks and deliverables, with the majority being in service of driving considerable value for our clients. Being part of OW allows me the freedom to better manage my time from a personal perspective and contribute widely to the success of our business.
What’s your favourite part of the job?
Working face to face with clients gives me the most joy. Helping them to overcome the endemic issues that have been holding them back is what we do and we get to share in their success emotionally and financially – everybody wins.
What’s your idea of a utopian workplace?
Looking out to sea with my MacBook and a decent cup of tea!
If you had to describe yourself in three words, what would they be?
Scottish, proud, and difficult (at times).
What is your favourite saying?
“If it was your company and your money, would you do that?”
What would people be surprised to know about you?
That I’ve been out of Scotland longer than I lived there – my strong Glaswegian accent is still causing much amusement across the world.
What’s your biggest achievement? Professional and/or personal
There’s no contest – having two beautiful sons and watching them grow into the talented and caring young adults that they are today.
