Planning future performance is an integral part of most companies’ operations today – longer-term strategic planning, medium-term business planning, and annual operating planning and budgeting. And whilst there might be a collective groan throughout the organization when the ‘planning cycle’ is announced, most executives would acknowledge that it is impossible to run a company without a forward view of the resources required to achieve the desired objectives.
Of course, a plan is our best estimate at that particular point in time of the activities required to achieve a certain objective, with the proviso that certain internal and external conditions are in place to deliver the plan.
